What have we been up to?
Putting the Pieces Together: a confidence by and for people living pain – We are proud that CAPA Steering Committee members, Therese Lane and Linda Wilhelm presented at Putting the Pieces Together – a virtual conference that was designed and hosted by people who live with pain during National Pain Awareness Week (November 6 – 12, 2022). The conference included presentations and discussions hosted by people living with pain. All conference sessions will be posted shortly.
American College of Rheumatology (ACR) presentation – Natasha Trehan, founder of Take a Pain Check Foundation, presented a virtual patient perspectives poster at ACR on Saturday, November 12th. Read the poster to learn how our organizations are supporting each other.
Patient evidence submission for Upadacitinib for Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) – Thank you to those of you that completed our survey sharing experiences with AS and Upadacitinib. We submitted the patient evidence to CADTH and you can read it on our website.
Canada Disability Benefit – The federal government is currently debating the creation of a new Canada Disability Benefit for people of working age. We developed a policy brief for the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities as they study and deliberate on this new benefit.

Clinical Trial Ontario (CTO) survey – Decentralized clinical trials (AKA remote or virtual clinical trials) are clinical trials that include participants located outside of the study site. During the pandemic, many clinical trials were run in a decentralized way, and CTO wants to hear throughts from all Canadians related to decentralized trials – please take a few minutes to share your thoughts today!
Survey about ableism in health research – The Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) is asking people who have a health condition that affects how they interact with the health research funding system to share their views. You can complete the survey online, or you may choose another format found on the CIHR website.

Researchers at the University Health Network are recruiting diverse women with osteoarthritis accross Canada to participate in a 20-minute phone interview. Eligible women are 40+ and the research team is looking to speak with South Asian (African, Caribbean) women.

Health Canada warning about JAK inhibitors – Health Canada recently issued a warning about JAK inhibitors which are used in the treatment of various types of inflammatory arthritis. Learn more about the new warning on the Health Canada website. Contact your rheumatologist to discuss any specific questions or concerns.
New funding for people with pain – The Government of Canada announced over $5 million to enhance support for people living with chronic pain and to expand the Pain Canada Network. The funding will expand best practice education and training programs across Canada. Read the official announcement to learn more!
Osteoarthritis Information hub – Do you live with osteoarthritis? Check out this co-developed resource with Arthritis Society Canada to help you manage symptoms and find treatments that work for you.
