Rheum For Your Mind mental health workshops happening this month!

We are pleased to announce that we are co-hosting Rheum for your Mind workshops with Take a Pain Check Foundation. We held our first workshop on October 14th where we heard from Dr. Andrea Knight (rheumatologist) and Dr. Katie Birnie (psychologist). It’s not too late to register for the second workshop on October 28th where you will hear from Pamela Jarvis (social worker) and an interactive panel of youth, parents, and adults who live with juvenile arthritis.

What have we been up to?

Coffee for CAPA – For Arthritis Awareness Month in September, CAPA held their 2nd annual fundraiser to raise funds to continue being able to provide the community with resources and support. We raised $750 and want to thank everyone for their contributions!

Make Rheum for Youth Infographics In September 2022, we launched a survey in collaboration with Take a Pain Check Foundation to better understand the needs of youth and young adults with rheumatic disease. We hired a young person with rheumatic disease (Isabel Dukes) to analyze the Make Rheum for Youth survey and we are pleased to share the initial findings.

New Life Hacks resources available! – Bella Cairns, an occupational therapy student at McMaster University, worked with us over the summer. She wrote a blog post and created infographics that explain what OT’s can do for people with arthritis and tips and tricks to manage daily cooking tasks and how to live well with arthritis.

Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccines Webinar  – Please join us for a unique educational webinar about COVID-19 and other vaccines at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 4th from 12 pm to 2 pm EDT. CAPA Vice-President, Dr. Dawn Richards will moderate a discussion with a panel of experts including Nadine Lalonde, Dr. Inés Colmegna, and Dr. Dawn Bowdish. Survey about Evaluating Patient Partnership in Cardiovascular Research​ – Dr. Kelly Cobey, a researcher at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and her team are seeking patient partners and cardiovascular researchers to participate in a survey. Join a new Youth Committee – Calling all youth and young adults living with rheumatic diseases! We are recruiting for a new Youth Committee that will develop educational resources based on the findings of the Make Rheum for Youth survey with the Take a Pain Check Foundation. If you are interested in participating in the Youth Committee, please email or send a short video to contact@arthritispatient.ca and/or info@takeapaincheck.com by November 15, 2023.
Survey about Living with Knee and/or Hip Osteoarthritis – Do you have knee and/or hip osteoarthritis and live in Canada? The University of Toronto invites you to take an anonymous online survey which will take about 20 minutes. The survey asks you to rank health issues from least to most worrisome. The survey will be open until November 10, 2023.
