Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA) advocates for a coordinated, inclusive national approach that prioritizes fairness, equity, and meaningful patient involvement at every step.

This letter highlights that ENP and TNP only address a narrow part of the broader drug access system. Patients already face unequal access across provinces, and new pathways risk creating a two-tiered system that prioritizes certain drugs (e.g., cancer drugs or cost-saving therapies) over others, potentially excluding vulnerable groups like children, seniors, or those with chronic conditions. Without broader health system alignment, these changes may fall short of their potential.

CAPA urges the pCPA to:

  • Ensure regular, transparent updates and two-way communication.

  • Clearly show how patient voices shape decisions.

  • Expand the scope beyond cancer drugs to include chronic conditions like arthritis.

  • Clarify how savings from negotiations are reinvested in the healthcare system.
