The Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA) has written to the federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to express concern about newly announced co-payments under the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), which could create significant barriers to medications, rehabilitation services and mental health support for refugees and newcomers living with chronic illness. Drawing on lived experience and evidence, CAPA’s letter highlights the risk of delayed care, interrupted treatment and worsening health outcomes, and calls on the federal government to reconsider these changes and preserve equitable access to care.
