People living with autoimmune arthritis face higher risks from illnesses like RSV, shingles, and HPV because of the medications they need to manage their conditions. Yet in Ontario, many of these same individuals don’t qualify for publicly funded vaccines — leaving them with out-of-pocket costs of more than $1,200 for recommended protection.

That’s why the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance (CAPA) has written to Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, calling on the province to close these gaps. Expanding vaccine eligibility would mean better protection for vulnerable Ontarians, fewer hospitalizations, and less strain on our healthcare system.

We’re urging the government to act now so that people with autoimmune arthritis have access to the preventive care they deserve.
